Cookie & Storage Policy
Last updated: August 18, 2026
Relay Radio uses a limited amount of cookies and browser storage to keep the website working, remember useful choices, and support features you choose to use. This policy explains those technologies in plain language.
What Cookies and Browser Storage Are
Cookies are small pieces of information a website can store in your browser. Relay also uses browser features such as local storage and session storage. Local storage can remain on your device until it is cleared or replaced, while session storage is generally temporary and ends with the browser tab or session.
Storage Relay Uses
- Sessions and sign-in: Relay uses session information to keep the website and account features working. If a staff member or listener chooses a remember-me option, Relay may use additional cookies to keep that account signed in for about 30 days.
- Guest nickname: the shoutbox can remember a guest nickname in a browser cookie so it does not have to be re-entered each time. The current cookie can remain for up to about 300 days unless it is cleared sooner.
- Player and listening preferences: browser storage may remember choices such as stream quality and volume for recorded shows or podcast-style audio.
- Requests and community features: Relay may save request-status tokens, a requester nickname, or similar feature information in your browser so the site can recognize your own recent activity without requiring an account.
- Voice clips: when a voice clip is submitted, Relay may store a delete token in the submitting browser so that browser can later remove the clip.
- DJ alerts and Web Push: Relay may store whether you enabled DJ alerts, related push-notification preferences, and feature state needed to keep those choices working. Browser notification permission itself is controlled by your browser.
- Convenience and temporary caches: Relay may store recently used emoji and temporary album-art or playlist information to make repeat visits and page updates smoother.
Analytics and Third-Party Services
Relay currently uses Google Analytics to understand general website traffic and how visitors use the site. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies and may receive technical information such as browser or device details, activity on Relay, and network information.
Some Relay pages or features may also load services from other providers, such as YouTube for video or live chat and PayPal for donations. Those providers may use their own cookies or browser technologies under their own policies when their services are loaded or used.
How Long Browser Storage Lasts
Different items last for different periods. Session storage is generally temporary. Local storage remains until Relay replaces or removes it, a feature cleans it up, or you clear it in your browser. Remember-me account cookies are generally set for about 30 days, and the remembered guest-nickname cookie is currently set for up to about 300 days. Third-party services control the duration of their own cookies and storage.
Your Choices
You can clear or block cookies and browser storage using your browser settings. You can also choose not to use remember-me options, turn off browser notifications, or avoid optional features that rely on saved browser information. Blocking storage that is needed for sessions or sign-in may cause some parts of Relay Radio to stop working correctly.
Relay keeps its privacy controls proportionate to the services offered on the site. If Relay adds new tracking, advertising, consent controls, or materially changes how browser storage is used, this policy will be updated.
