Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 18, 2026
Relay Radio ("Relay Radio," "Relay," "we," "us," or "our") respects the privacy of the people who visit Relay-Radio.com, listen to the station, use our community features, or interact with our DJs. This Privacy Policy explains what information Relay may collect, how it is used, when it may be shared with service providers, and the choices available to you.
Information You Provide to Relay
Depending on how you use the site, you may choose to provide information such as:
- Listener account information, including a username, email address, password, account preferences, and related sign-in information.
- Newsletter information, such as your email address and subscription status.
- Song requests and dedications, including the requested song, nickname, dedication message, and related request details.
- Community submissions, such as birthday submissions, poll responses, contest entries, Buzzies nominations or votes, shoutbox messages, and similar interactive content.
- Voice clips that you intentionally record and submit to Relay Radio.
- DJ applications and other information you voluntarily send to station management.
- Staff or DJ account information used to administer the station and website.
Please do not submit sensitive personal information through requests, dedications, voice clips, shoutbox messages, or other public/community features.
On-Air and Archived Content
Relay Radio is a live radio service. Requests, dedications, nicknames, voice clips, shoutouts, or similar submissions may be read, played, discussed, or otherwise used on air. Live DJ shows may also be retained as Past Shows or other station archives. As a result, something intentionally submitted for on-air use may become part of a recorded broadcast or station archive.
Information Collected Automatically
Like most websites and online radio services, Relay may automatically receive limited technical information when you use the site. This can include your IP address, browser or device information, approximate request time, pages or features used, referring page, session information, and technical error or security information.
Relay also uses technical identifiers and hashes in some features. For example, certain request, podcast, security, and Web Push records may use a one-way hash instead of retaining a raw IP address for the same purpose.
Cookies and Browser Storage
Relay uses cookies and browser storage to operate the site and remember useful preferences. Examples include session/login state, remembered guest nickname, stream quality, player volume, recorded-show volume, recently used emoji, request-status information, Web Push state, followed-DJ notification preferences, artwork caching, and voice-clip deletion information.
Relay also uses Google Analytics to understand general website traffic and usage. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies and may receive information about your browser, device, activity on Relay, and network connection. See Relay's Cookie & Storage Policy for more detail about these technologies and the choices available in your browser.
How Relay Uses Information
Relay uses information for purposes such as:
- operating the website, player, listener accounts, station tools, requests, dedications, and community features;
- delivering newsletters and requested Web Push/DJ alerts;
- providing and improving Past Shows, podcasts, station statistics, and music-history features;
- preventing spam, abuse, duplicate voting, automated submissions, fraud, and other misuse;
- responding to questions, applications, support needs, or privacy requests;
- diagnosing errors, maintaining security, and improving reliability; and
- understanding how the website and station features are used.
Third-Party Services
Relay uses outside services where they are useful to operate the station or provide optional features. Depending on the page or feature you use, your browser or Relay's server may communicate with services including:
- Google Analytics for website usage statistics;
- YouTube for live video, video embeds, or live chat;
- Google-hosted resources, including some website fonts;
- Brevo for newsletter subscription management and email delivery;
- PayPal for donations;
- AzuraCast-powered radio services for streaming, station metadata, requests, and related radio functions;
- Apple/iTunes services for music metadata or album artwork lookups;
- GetIPIntel when Relay performs certain proxy/VPN or anti-abuse checks; and
- Genius when you intentionally follow a Lyrics link to the external Genius website.
These providers operate under their own privacy policies and may process technical information needed to provide their services. Links to social networks or other outside websites also take you to services Relay does not control.
Newsletter and Email
If you subscribe to the Relay Radio newsletter, Relay stores the email address and subscription information needed to manage that subscription. Relay uses Brevo to assist with newsletter delivery and subscriber management. You may unsubscribe using the unsubscribe option provided by Relay or in a newsletter message.
Web Push and DJ Alerts
Web Push notifications are optional and require permission from your browser. If enabled, Relay stores the technical push-subscription information required to deliver notifications. Relay may also store which DJs you choose to follow. Relay uses hashed IP information for this system rather than storing the raw IP address with the push subscription. Expired or unusable subscriptions may be removed.
Data Retention
Relay does not use one retention period for every type of information. Information is kept for as long as reasonably needed for the feature, station records, security, legal obligations, or legitimate operational needs.
For the current song-request system, Relay's configured maintenance rules generally remove raw request IP addresses after about 7 days, remove requester/dedication identity information after about 365 days, and remove old provider-response metadata after about 90 days once a request is no longer pending or approved. Some technical, anti-abuse, contest, voting, community, listener, or legacy records may use different retention periods while Relay continues to review and minimize older data.
Error-log archives are designed for short-term troubleshooting and are subject to their own cleanup process. Aggregated station statistics that no longer identify a particular visitor may be kept longer.
When Information May Be Shared
Relay does not sell or rent personal information to data brokers. Information may be shared with service providers when needed to operate a feature described in this policy, with station staff who need access for legitimate station duties, when required by law, or when reasonably necessary to protect Relay, its users, the station, or others from abuse, fraud, or security threats.
Your Choices and Privacy Requests
You may choose not to use optional features that require additional information. You can unsubscribe from newsletters, disable browser notifications, clear browser cookies/storage, and avoid submitting optional community information.
Depending on where you live and the laws that apply, you may also have rights concerning access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information. Relay will review reasonable privacy requests and respond as appropriate under applicable law.
To make a privacy request or ask a question about this policy, contact Relay Radio management at managers@relay-radio.com. Please provide enough information for us to understand and, when necessary, verify the request.
Children's Privacy
Relay Radio is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13. If Relay learns that personal information was collected directly from a child under 13 in circumstances covered by applicable children's privacy law, Relay will take reasonable steps to address or delete that information as required.
Security
Relay uses reasonable technical and administrative measures intended to protect the information it maintains. No website, network, or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so visitors should use care when deciding what information to submit online.
Changes to This Policy
Relay may update this Privacy Policy as website features, service providers, or privacy practices change. The current version will be posted on this page with its last-updated date.
