We’ve made several improvements to the Relay Radio request system to make submitting, reviewing, and tracking song requests clearer for both listeners and our live DJs.
The biggest change affects requests submitted during a live DJ show. Previously, a new request could appear in the Recent Requests area immediately, even though the DJ had not yet reviewed or accepted it. That could make it look like the song was officially queued when it was still waiting for approval.
Going forward, live DJ requests will remain private until the DJ reviews them. The DJ can then approve or deny the request.
Once approved, the request will appear publicly as queued and can later be marked as played. A denied request will simply be removed without appearing in Recent Requests or affecting request statistics.
Requests sent to Relay Jukebox, our automated music system, will continue to appear as queued immediately after they are accepted. Since Relay Jukebox handles its requests automatically, no DJ approval is needed.
Clearer request handling for live DJs
Our DJs now have a more straightforward request process:
- New requests begin as Pending Review
- The DJ can Approve or Deny them
- Approved requests can later be marked Played
- Requests that cannot be played can be removed from the active queue
- A request may also be carried over when appropriate
Dedications are now reviewed as part of the request instead of feeling like a separate, confusing process. This gives DJs a chance to review both the requested song and any attached message before either appears publicly.
Better Recent Requests information
The Recent Requests section has also been improved. When the requester provided a nickname, it can now be displayed alongside the request. This gives listeners a little more recognition and helps make the request list feel like part of the Relay Radio community rather than just a list of songs.
We also reorganized the homepage so recent requests fit more naturally alongside recently played music and other community information.
More meaningful request statistics
Request statistics will now better reflect requests that were actually accepted and handled.
Denied requests will not count toward public request activity or listener statistics. Approved and played requests will continue contributing to features such as request totals, popular requested songs, and top requester information.
This helps keep the numbers fair while still recognizing the listeners who regularly participate in our shows.

These changes are designed to make the request system easier to understand:
Listeners can see when an accepted request is truly queued, DJs have better control over what appears publicly, and Relay Radio’s request statistics will provide a more accurate picture of listener participation.
